1978 corolla alternator light stays on will not shut off. when i put it in drive it gets brighter back to park it dims a little .with the car on i took the positive cable off and it stays on so i know its charging. i put new pos and neg cables and still lights on. also i checked alternator wires connetion r good but the wireing harness is a little stiff from heat and old . will appr. any sugg. help

sounds like it might be the Voltage Regulator
